Mexico – 2 Weeks Trip Itinerary

2 weeks itinerary for Mexico

In this 2 weeks trip, we travelled to

  • Cancun
  • Merida
  • Mexico City.

Hotels stayed in:

  • Wyndham Garden Cancun Downtown
  • Gamma Mérida El Castellano
  • Hampton Inn & Suites Mexico City – Centro Historico

Booked hotels from Booking.com and Expedia.com. It is always better to check prices at multiple sites to get the best deals.

Itinerary

Day 1: Reached Cancun at evening

Had a airport pickup booked in advance from Welcome Pickups.   It costed $30 to the downtown.

Relax at the hotel – Wyndham Garden Cancun Downtown . There are few restaurants nearby hotel

Day 2:  Day tour to Cobá, Cenote, Tulum and Playa del Carmen Tour  (GBP 150 for 2 adults + 1 kid)

I had already booked a day tour in advance from viator.com This trips took us to 4 locations – Coba (historical ruins), Cenote (cave water), Tulum (Historical ruins) and Playa del Carmen (Beach area).

In addition to tour price, had to pay USD 20 per person for Coba and Tulum local taxes.

The tour had pickup included from hotel. Buffet lunch at traditional place was included (same place as cenote).

Day 3:  Xcaret  (GBP 300 for 2 adults + 1 kid)

I had already booked a day tour in advance from viator.com This trips is for Xcaret Day Trip+ Night Show+ Transportation

We did not opt for Buffet lunch option, thinking that we should be abel to find somethings as ala carte (being vegetarian). Note that, there are very limited options other than buffet. SO we ended up taking buffet there which was costing USD 45 / per person. We felt it was rip-off, as they charged same amount for kids and as we were vegeterian, we had “very very” limited choices.

So it may be better to take the buffet option at the time of booking or take sufficient food with you.

Day 4:  Exploring city & Shopping

We were planning to visit Isla Mujares, but ended up exploring city, beaches and shopping

Day 5: Bus from Cancun downtown to Merida

Pre-booked bus from Cancun to Merida from BusBUD It is 4.5 hours journey

Merida is a small town, so Uber did not work.Took a taxi from outside bus station. The short trip to hotel in downtown cost MXN 100 (USD 6 / GBP 5).

Reached our hotel – Gamma Mérida El Castellano (nice hotel in the downtown)

Explored city in the afternoon

Day 6: Day Tour : Chichén Itzá, Izamal, Valladolid, & Cenote Trip

I had already booked a day tour in advance from Expedia. Had to pay additional amount at the start of the tour – Surcharge (700 mxn Adult/100 mxn Child)

This trips took us to 4 locations – Chichén Itzá, Izamal, Valladolid, & Cenote

  • Chichén Itzá – Seven wonders of the world
  • Cenote – Chichikan Cenote amazing views
  • Izamal
  • Valladolid – Yellow City

Buffet Lunch (No drinks included). Chichikan Cenote Visit – LifeJackets & Lockers Included

Day 7: Exploring Merida City

Exploring city and shopping

Day 8: Merida to Mexico City Flight

Took Uber to Merida airport and then flight to Mexico City. Booked Uber for airport pickup.

The Uber shows the gate for pickup. When you come out of the airport, you wil come out at Gate 1, but there are consecutive gates marked at 2,3,4,5 . As Uber drivers are not allowed to wait, they keep moving at slow pace to consecutive doors. So keep an eye for the vehicle number / chat or call through uber app t confirm the gate. Even if you are at different gate, do not worry as all gates are just next to each other (exiting on same road).

Reached at Hampton Inn & Suites Mexico City – Centro Historico.

Day 9: Trip to Teotihuacan

Day 10 : Day Tour  – Full-Day Tour Exploring the Waters of Tolantongo
